A hand-thrown Bizen ware ceramic vase, traditionally used for ikebana flower arranging. The piece features natural earthy tones with ash glaze effects, accented by applied side lugs. An incised fishhook-style mark is visible on the base. The rim shows remnants of a white encrusted material, adding to its wabi-sabi character. Bizen ware is celebrated as one of Japan’s oldest pottery traditions, valued for its unglazed, wood-fired surfaces that reveal unique firing variations. Measures approximately 9&#34; tall. Retains a partial label on the reverse for Jacques Lawrence, Inc., a New York City art and framing dealer active in the mid-20th century.
