VTG Echoplex Echo Chamber - untested. Originally released in 1970, this specific model is a solid-state version used primarily by musicians and producers to add depth, texture, and character to recordings and live performances. Primary Uses Tape Echo & Delay: It uses an endless loop of magnetic tape with a sliding record head to create echo effects. By moving the slider, you can adjust the distance between heads to change the delay time.Tonal Conditioning (Preamp): Many guitarists use the Echoplex just for its preamp circuit. Even with the echo turned off, the EP-3's FET preamp adds a "rounded, woody tone" and subtle compression that many players find addictive.Sound-on-Sound: This model features a Sound On Sound mode, which acts as a primitive looper, allowing you to layer phrases over each other.Creative Soundscapes: It is famous for creating wild, self-oscillating "spaceship" sounds and distinctive slapback echoes. Famous Users The Echoplex EP-3 defined the signature sounds of several iconic musicians: Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin): Used it for both his guitar and Theremin during live tours in the 1970s.
