David Whitzman was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and became a prominent figure in Canadian art through his dedication to plein-air painting and teaching. His preferred medium was pastel, and he was awarded • the title of Premier Pastelist of Canada by the Pastel Society of Canada.
