Early 20th Century Sconces 3

Scones, judging from the pictures are made in the first half of the 20th century. The design is inspired by a 18th century model that was common in Europe and usually made of brass or bronze. Wall scones are very decorative and create a fine atmosphere, c. 20th c Wall sconce is a very old form of lighting, the early ones were used with different kind of oils and later with candles and gas. They could provide a general lighting in rooms, corridors, hallways and on outside walls. The light of the candle flame was often intensified by a reflecting backplate, but it also made it a bit safer. Later came wall scones with cut glass to spread the light.
