Oshawa (Ontario, Canada) SELLER MANAGED Downsizing Online Auction - Sagebrush Street
Lot #72
5d left
This piece is a dining highboy cabinet, used for storage in a dining room, such as for linens, silverware, or china. It stands approximately 63-inches, with a rich, dark oak finish that has a warm, reddish-brown patina, showing some natural wear and age-appropriate distressing on the edges and high points. The overall design is ornate and symmetrical.
Structure and Dimensions: The cabinet has a rectangular base with two turned and carved cabriole-style legs at the front bottom, each ending in a subtle paw or scroll foot for stability and decorative flair. The body rises in three main sections: a lower cabinet area, a central drawer section, and an upper enclosed compartment. It's about 37-inches wide and 17.5" deep, with a slight outward flare at the sides for visual depth.
Lower Section: This features two side panels that are actually doors. The doors have antique metal pulls shaped like rings or drop handles, centred on the carved motifs. Below the doors, there's a subtle plinth base that elevates the piece slightly off the floor.
Middle Section: Above the doors is a row of two shallow drawers, each with matching carved fronts and brass pulls. The drawers have a gentle arch or serpentine curve at the top edge, adding to the flowing aesthetics.
Upper Section: The top is crowned by a pediment with a central carved burst, flanked by turned finials or spires on either side. There's a single door here, and raised moldings.
Decorative Elements: The entire piece is heavily adorned with hand-carved details. The wood grain is visible through the finish, an indication that it is of a solid construction rather than veneer. The back is flat and unadorned, indicating it's designed to sit against a wall. The condition looks good for an antique.
Dimensions: 37" x 17.5" x 63"
