This is a mid-19th-century gilded bronze novelty inkwell fashioned as a running ostrich.The ostrich features hinged wings that lift to reveal a glass insert for holding ink.The piece is mounted on an oval base with naturalistic rock formations designed to function as a pen rest.Similar items have been valued between 1,000 and 2,400 depending on condition and origin.
